The effects of different concentrations of ionic liquid additive 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazole‐methanesulfonic salt EMIMMSO 3 and glue on the cathodic potential and quality of zinc electrodeposition have been investigated. The properties of ionic liquid additives were studied by controlling the variable method and cathodic polarization curves. At a current density of 500 A/m 2 and temperature of 38°C, different concentrations of ionic liquid additives EMIMMSO 3 were added to the zinc electrolyte containing 60 g/L Zn 2+ and 180 g/L H 2 SO 4 . Also, the effects of constant current polarization on zinc deposition and Pb–Ag anodes were studied. The experimental results show that the addition of ionic liquid additives in the standard electrolyte can improve the corrosion resistance of the Pb–Ag anodes, increase the cathodic potential, and lead to a change in the surface morphology of zinc deposits. In the standard electrolyte, the rise of lead content in the zinc electrolyte results in a decrease in the cathodic potential. Moreover, with the increase of ionic liquid additive content, the lead content in zinc electrolyte decreases, and the purity of the cathode zinc deposit was improved.
