Extract Exposure to elevated ambient temperatures is associated with increased obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) severity 1, 2 and is projected to further worsen the global economic and health burden of OSA by the end of the century 1. However, while snoring is the primary presenting complaint in people with suspected OSA, no evidence exists for an association between temperature and snoring. Given that OSA and snoring are correlated and share common consequences and physiological mechanisms, (e.g., increased upper airway collapsibility) 3–5, snoring frequency, duration, and loudness may also plausibly increase with heat exposure. Conversely, extreme heat fragments sleep 6, potentially reducing slow wave sleep 7, 8, a state characterized by increased ventilatory drive and more frequent, louder snoring 9. These opposing mechanisms make the potential effect of high temperatures on snoring unclear. In this study, we analyzed data from a previously published study 1 to investigate the association between ambient temperature and snoring.
