ABSTRACT This article outlines the creation, development, and decline of Pittsburgh’s first out LGBTQA+ professional organization from a founding member’s point of view. Established at the height of the AIDS epidemic, Thursday Night Live served as a respite from the outbreak but also brought controversial public attention to a segment of the city’s queer community that had still been largely in the shadows. This article uses surviving records and materials from a time when printing queer names on public documents was threatening and dangerous, as well as interviews with surviving TNL members.
