The advent of social media has profoundly impacted communication, connectivity, and civic participation in India, which has over 500 million platform users. Social media enables activism on gender violence but raises worries around misinformation, privacy, hate speech, and mental health. Platforms increased transparency via citizen-government information flows. However, misinformation's speed and reach significantly harm India's information ecosystem. Low digital literacy and verification enable manipulation. Also, addiction is linked to mental health issues. As global platforms' influence rises, debates continue on national privacy, and data regulation to balance openness and user protections. In conclusion, while social media improves connectedness and empowers Indians with information, persistent challenges such as misinformation, hate speech, privacy, and well-being call for sensitive Indian initiatives. Achieving this balance will allow India to reap the benefits of social media in an equitable manner while also protecting the public interest. This study seeks to examine Indian users' experiences and perspectives of social media platforms, including connectivity, community building, and information sharing, as well as challenges such as misinformation, harassment, and privacy breaches. The goal would be to generate insights and recommendations that would enable Indian society and regulators to address systemic concerns related to social media and progress toward more ethical, inclusive, and powerful online environments.
