The sealing performance of bolted gasketed pipe flange connections depends on the contact gasket stress, which varies depending on the bolt tightening force and internal pressure. It is also known that the contact gasket stress is influenced by the gasket material and shape. This study aims to improve sealing performance by investigating the effect of the material and shape of metal flat gaskets on the sealing performance. In the present study, the gasket contact stress distribution was investigated using FEM calculations to estimate sealing performance and leak rate measurements were performed using platen tests to verify the calculated results, and it was found that the leak rate of 10-10 Pa m3/s was obtained for copper flat gasket.
