Abstract A diet refers to the total amount of food consumed by an individual in a day. A balanced diet provides all essential nutrients in adequate proportions required for maintaining health and well-being. These nutrients include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and fibre. A balanced diet ensures proper growth, supports body functions, and helps in disease prevention. This paper highlights the key components of a balanced diet, their functions, and their importance in maintaining overall health. A balanced diet is essential for maintaining optimal health, supporting bodily functions, and preventing diseases. It consists of an appropriate combination of macronutrients—carbohydrates, proteins, and fats—along with micronutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibre. Each of these components plays a specific role in energy production, tissue growth and repair, immune function, and overall physiological balance. This paper examines the major components of a balanced diet, their functions, and their significance in promoting physical and mental well-being. Emphasis is placed on the importance of consuming a variety of foods in proper proportions to meet individual nutritional needs. The study highlights how adopting balanced dietary habits can enhance quality of life and reduce the risk of lifestyle-related diseases.
