This study presents the analysis of a massive rock ilmenite sample using Mössbauer spectroscopy in reflection mode with MIMOS II, highlighting its applicability for extraterrestrial exploration. By targeting ilmenite, a mineral of considerable relevance to planetary geology, we demonstrate the instrument’s capability to deliver precise mineralogical data. The results affirm MIMOS’s efficacy for in-situ analysis and underscore its readiness for deployment in extraterrestrial environments. This work contributes to advancing methodologies for planetary exploration, offering a robust tool for mineralogical studies on celestial bodies.
