Abstract In this paper, we discuss the Linnaean name Lupinus stoloniferus , published for a species first described by the Sicilian Francesco Cupani and later neglected by Linnaeus himself. We demonstrate that Linnaeus's concept of L. stoloniferus corresponds to the Mediterranean taxon later widely known as L. micranthus Guss., which, however, should more correctly bear the replacement name L. gussoneanus . We typify the latter two homotypic names on a specimen preserved at NAP. Besides, the name L. stoloniferus , after lectotypification with a specimen in LINN, has priority over both L. micranthus Guss. and L. gussoneanus . To preserve nomenclatural stability a separate proposal has been submitted to conserve L. micranthus Guss. over L. gussoneanus and L. stoloniferus .
