Abstract

ABSTRACT An 18‐month‐old southern hairy‐nosed wombat ( Lasiorhinus latifrons) was presented with progressive alopecia. Histopathological investigation revealed atrophic hair follicles in telogen. Thyroid hormone levels were decreased compared to age‐matched controls. Treatment with thyroxine improved the haircoat. This case highlights the consideration of congenital endocrinopathies as a cause of noninflammatory alopecia in young wombats.
