Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder with significant medical and social implications, affecting quality of life, mental health, and societal integration. Advances in understanding its multidimensional impact have led to evolving management strategies that address both clinical and psychosocial challenges. The purpose of this review is to examine the social and medical implications of an epilepsy diagnosis in adults. A comprehensive literature review identified 64 articles that met stringent inclusion criteria through searches in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The review focuses on the psychosocial impacts of epilepsy, highlighting the importance of targeted research in improving management and care. This study was conducted as part of a research project supported by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Grant No. AP23489425). The findings emphasize that psychosocial difficulties in epilepsy arise from the interaction between seizure frequency, personality changes, and cognitive impairments, including deficits in attention, memory, and intelligence. Specialized medical services and targeted research are essential for improving patient outcomes and reducing the broader socioeconomic burden of epilepsy. Addressing the multifaceted challenges of epilepsy requires improved access to medical care, increased public awareness, and targeted interventions aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and quality of life.
