Fonology is an R package for phonological analysis, with tools for grapheme-to-phoneme conversion, syllabification, stress assignment, sonority-based measures, natural-class feature matrices, and maximum entropy modeling. It provides primary support for Portuguese, Spanish, French, and Italian, along with CMU-backed English transcription that allows user-correctable overrides and heuristic fallback for out-of-vocabulary forms. The package is designed to support reproducible phonological research and teaching by integrating common analytical workflows into a consistent R interface, including transcription, feature-based generalization, quantitative phonotactic measures, and visualization-ready outputs.
