Herbert Ferlando Schwarz (1883–1960) was an American entomologist who specialised on Hymenoptera, especially stingless bees (Apinae: Meliponini). In 1939, Scharwz proposed the name Partamona Schwarz, 1939 (Schwarz 1939) as a replacement for the preoccupied Patera Schwarz, 1938 (Schwarz 1938), at the time a subgenus of Trigona Jurine , 1807. According to Schwarz (1939: p. 23): ‘ The Partamona is taken from a tribe of Indians of Arawak stock inhabiting the hinterland of British Guiana ’. In actuality, it is a lapsus, perpetuated by Pedro Olson 1991).
Evandson José Dos Anjos-Silva (Fri,) studied this question.
