A new species of the genus Typhaeus Leach, 1815, Typhaeus bubeniki sp. nov., is described and illustrated from the Spanish region of Murcia in the vicinity of Cañada de la Cruz. The new species is compared to the most similar Typhaeus typhoeus (Linnaeus, 1758), based on Scarabaeus typhoeus. Illustrations in colour photographs, results of DNA analyses and maps of distribution for both species are presented. A lectotype of Scarabaeus typhoeus (designated by Landin 1956) is also illustrated.
