Color is a multi-layered concept that is handled with different dimensions in many disciplines. In various fields such as art, psychology, sociology and architecture, color is considered as an element that directly affects perception, emotion and behavior. In the context of interior architecture discipline, color is not only a decorative element or an aesthetic preference, but also a powerful design tool that can transform the perceptual, psychological, and functional dimensions of the space. Color plays a decisive role in directing the user experience, influencing the volumetric perception and constructing the spatial atmosphere. In this direction, color should be considered as an important component in creating the identity of the space and strengthening the interaction with the user. This study focuses on the effects of color on physical perception in space design. Although color also has important effects on psychological perception, these effects may vary depending on individual differences and it is difficult to make an objective classification. On the other hand, the effects of color on the physical components of spatial perception are relatively independent of subjective variability and can be analyzed more systematically. For this reason, the effects of colors on physical perception were taken as the focus of the study and the evaluations were shaped accordingly. In this context, the effect of the use of color on the physical perception of space has been examined. As a result of this examination, the effect of color on physical perception in space has been classified under five headings: size perception, location-direction perception, focus-emphasis perception, spatial boundary perception and form/shape perception.
