ABSTRACT Ship berthing is a complex and dynamic process that requires precise manoeuvering decisions to ensure the safety and efficiency of port operations. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel decision‐making model for ship berthing based on fuzzy logic. The model incorporates key kinematic parameters and environmental conditions into an integrated decision‐making framework designed to offer real‐time support to shipmasters and pilots. A systematic motion coordinate system for ship berthing is developed to quantify and calculate these influencing factors, and the fuzzy logic method is used to manage their imprecision and uncertainty. The effectiveness of the proposed model is validated through a case study, and the results demonstrate that the model can provide a useful and practical tool for appropriate berthing decisions. This study enhances safety and operational efficiency in ship berthing by providing a dependable and methodical decision‐making framework.
