Two evaluation trenches were investigated in the accessible parts of the c1.07ha light industrial site. Remains of prehistoric, Roman, Saxon and medieval date have been found in the surrounding vicinity. The deserted medieval settlement of Sewardstone Hamlet is understood to have been located just to the east and the site itself is known to have been previously occupied by the medieval Pentensary Farm and its post-medieval successor Sewardstone Hall. The two trial trenches excavated toward the western end of the development site contained no archaeological features, deposits or finds. Extensive modern truncation and disturbance of the ground was demonstrated that likely extends across much of the site.
