The image quality and customized functionality of small-pixel mobile camera systems continues to bring true product differentiation to smartphones. Recently, phase detection autofocus (PDAF) pixels, pixel isolation structures, chip stacking and other technology elements have contributed to a remarkable increase in mobile camera performance. Other imaging applications continue to benefit from small-pixel development efforts as foundries and IDMs transfer leading edge technology to active pixel arrays for emerging imaging and sensing applications
