ABSTRACT The zero field splitting and crystal field (CF) parameters of Mn 2+ ‐doped ZnRb 2 (SO 4 ) 2 ·6H 2 O (ZRS) single crystals are modeled using the superposition model. The parameters thus determined are in conformity with those evaluated from EPR. The experimental EPR result that the Zn 2+ site is occupied by the Mn 2+ ion in ZRS is verified. The crystal's optical spectra are calculated utilizing the above CF parameters and CF analysis program. A fair correspondence is obtained with the experimental crystal‐field energy levels. Thus, the theoretical analysis confirms the experimental observations.
