Background. The active global spread of Trichophyton indotineae is a current problem of clinical mycology. It is a new type of dermatophyte that is aggressive and resistant to antibiotics in the absence of diagnostic methods available for routine practice. Discovery of the first cases of dermatophytosis caused by T. indotineae in the Moscow region determines the need to study the spread of this pathogen in other regions of the country, including the Urals. Objective. To determine the incidence rate of T. indotineae in the Ural region among patients with mycosis of the skin and its appendages. Material and methods. Molecular and biological methods were used to detect dermatophytes, identify T. indotineae and mutations of resistance to terbinafine in squalene epoxidase (SQLE) gene. Results and conclusions. Samples with DNA of T. mentagrophytes complex (43/13.3%), among which DNA from T. indotineae was identified in 9 (2.74%), were selected among the samples containing DNA of causative agents of mycosis, namely Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton (n=328). The key demographic and clinical characteristics of a group of patients with trichophytosis caused by T. indotineae and the effectiveness of their treatment are described. The first case of dermatophytosis caused by T. indotineae in a child in Russia is described.
