The present growth in consumption has resulted in increased household waste production and accumulation in developing societies, particularly in Asia. This study aimed to identify factors in transition from operand resources to operant resources through the adoption of smart waste management technologies, examining the moderating role of government policies, regulations, and infrastructure development. To test the research hypotheses, a survey collected primary data from 323 participants in Bangladesh who completed the questionnaire through social media. The findings reveal that technological literacy, the perceived benefits of technology adoption, the cost of implementation, environmental awareness, and smart waste management’s accessibility affect consumer engagement in sustainable waste-disposal practices for several reasons discussed in detail in this paper. Moreover, government policies, regulations, and infrastructure development strengthen the impact of technological literacy, perceived benefits of technology adoption, cost of implementation, environmental awareness, and the accessibility of smart waste management on consumer engagement in sustainable waste-disposal practices.
