The twenty-first century is the age of information and technology, music and entertainment, and social media. All these components come under one umbrella, which is known as popular culture (pop culture). Music, entertainment, and social media have become an inseparable part of young people’s lives. The music industry began in the late 1880s, and since then music has been widely used for entertainment. A recent national survey indicates that a significant portion of Indian youth engage extensively with social media. On average, young people in India spend around three hours per day on social networking platforms, with social media usage especially high among the Gen Z age group, as reported in a recent digital usage study. The same research shows that WhatsApp and Facebook remain among the most widely used platforms, while global figures estimate that Facebook has approximately 3.06 billion monthly active usersand WhatsApp around2.40 billion users worldwide. Despite certain negative effects, pop culture has several benefits. It plays a significant role in business, education, entertainment, and communication. In the field of education, pop culture contributes to the emergence of modern vocabulary by introducing new words such as cover, selfie, podcast, log, and hashtag. This research paper studies how modern vocabulary is emerging and expanding through pop culture.
