The Anatomy of a Cut addresses the conflict between urban densification and the Greater Lulu Island Bog buried beneath Richmond, British Columbia. Located at the Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s plaza, the project bridges the Lansdowne Mall redevelopment and Garden City Lands - a Community Farm and a Bog Conservation Area. Rather than attempting a literal restoration, the design uses topography and water circulation to evoke the bog’s ancient landscape. By tapping into Richmond’s broader ecological networks, the project transforms a divided site into a space for environmental advocacy and collective memory, offering a new framework to guide, connect, and heal.
