False Creek has a history of heavy industrialization and is currently being polluted by combined sewer outfalls (CSOs), recreational boats, and surface runoff. Bivalves such as oysters have the incredible ability to filter the water of contaminants and create ecosystem stability as they provide structures for other marine life. Our goal is to assess the feasibility of establishing a vertical oyster garden in False Creek in hopes of remediating the water, increasing biodiversity, and upholding environmental stewardship through community engagement.
