Abstract This study, grounded in the Theory of Planned Behavior, aims to examine the influence of engagement in ski tourism and environmental responsibility on low-carbon tourism behavior. The research was conducted using 679 valid questionnaires collected from domestic and international tourists visiting the Palandöken Ski Resort in Turkey. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling and path analysis. The results indicate that engagement in ski tourism has a significant negative effect on environmental responsibility, while environmental responsibility positively influences low-carbon tourism attitudes and behaviors. Furthermore, low-carbon tourism attitude was found to partially mediate the relationship between environmental responsibility and low-carbon tourism behavior. Within this framework, the study seeks to enhance understanding of the determinants of low-carbon tourism behaviors and to elucidate the role of environmental responsibility in shaping tourists’ attitudes. Moreover, it aims to broaden the scope of low-carbon tourism research and provide both theoretical and practical contributions to the promotion of environmentally responsible tourist behavior.
