The goal of the 1st Symposium on Artificial Intelligence throughout the Human-Centered Design Process (AI-HCD 2026) is to present and discuss current research and practices in the interplay field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Human-Centered Design (HCD). As AI becomes increasingly embedded in creative and analytical workflows, they offer new opportunities to support or even automate tasks throughout the entire HCD process. This symposium brings together researchers and practitioners from human-computer interaction, user experience, usability, design and AI to examine how AI can meaningfully contribute to HCD. Key questions include how AI can support creative thinking, generate or adapt prototypes, and assist in conducting or analyzing user research. Participants will explore the shifting roles of designers and researchers in light of these technologies, identify methodological and ethical challenges, and collaboratively map the current landscape. The symposium aims to foster critical dialogue and lay the groundwork for future research agenda at the intersection of AI and HCD.
