This project is grounded in the historical link between the witch hunts and the enclosure of the commons, and it directly responds to Burrard View Park's history as a site for the moral policing of teen girls, particularly Indigenous youth. Historically, these systems of control have severed communities from land-based knowledge and disproportionately disempowered women and girls. To dismantle this legacy, the design reconnects the Hastings-Sunrise neighborhood with the land and with one another. Through a native food forest and programming designed specifically for teen girls, the project benefits the broader community and ultimately restores the magic of the commons to the public realm.
