This study was conducted to evaluate efficacy of selected chemicals for managing disease of tomatoes, emphasizing bacterial spot caused by Xanthomonas perforans. Bacterial spot is the most damaging disease of tomatoes in southern Illinois. Nine-week-old ‘Red Duce’ seedlings were transplanted on 17 May. The experiment was performed in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Applications of chemicals, at 7-day intervals, began on 23 June and ended on 18 August. Plants were infected by natural inoculi. Only early blight and bacterial spot developed on foliage in the plots. Severity of foliage infection of both diseases in control plots was significantly (P = 0.05) higher than those of sprayed plots.
