Fucoidan is a well-studied compound with established activity against breast cancer in preclinical models. However, despite increasing evidence, its clinical application in humans remains limited. This study analyzed current research trends on the effects of fucoidan against breast cancer, evaluated the impact of cancer-related data and socioeconomic factors on research productivity, and identified gaps requiring further investigation. A literature review was conducted using Scopus® (from inception to 2024), while cancer-related data were retrieved from IARC-GLOBOCAN (2022) and socioeconomic indicators from the IMF and World Bank. Statistical analyses were performed using Microsoft® Excel, and network visualizations were generated using VOSviewer. A total of 163 original and review articles were analyzed, showing a steady increase over time. Most studies were authored by researchers from China, the USA, the Russian Federation, and Taiwan, with leading institutions also based in these countries. Keyword trends reflected growing interest in drug resistance, molecular mechanisms, and nanomedicine, as seen in recurring terms such as “antitumor”, “cellular uptake”, “immunotherapy,” “molecular mechanisms”, “nanoparticles”, and “triple-negative breast cancer. The largest number of publications came from countries with the highest rates of incidence and mortality. Research productivity correlates strongly with GDP, the number of physicians and researchers, and R&D expenditure, indicating the impact of financial and human resources on research output. To advance fucoidan-based research, increased support for researchers in developing countries is essential. Emphasis on safety and toxicity testing is also necessary to support its translation into clinical use.
