Objectives: In light of the increasing emphasis of educational systems on integrating modern scientific topics into school curricula, genetic engineering has become one of the most profound and expansive scientific subjects in school science textbooks. This study aimed to investigate the alternative conceptions held by male and female life science teachers regarding genetic engineering in the Na'ur and Wadi Al-Seer regions of Jordan, employing an analytical descriptive methodology that considered variables such as gender, teaching experience, and undergraduate GPA Methods: The study sample consisted of 51 teachers (male and female), and the research instrument was a 30-item dichotomous test, with each item containing four alternatives distributed across five domains Results: The results demonstrated significant variations in the level of understanding of genetic engineering concepts among the participating teachers, alongside substantial challenges in comprehending the applications of genetic engineering. Specifically, the findings highlighted a high prevalence of alternative conceptions among life science teachers concerning the "perception of the practical boundaries of genetic engineering," with an error rate of 31.37% in this domain, reflecting a notable knowledge gap. When compared to the experts’ acceptable threshold for alternative conceptions (5%), the actual percentage far exceeded the accepted limit. Furthermore, the study revealed no statistically significant differences in the mean scores of the alternative conception test domains among participants, attributable to gender, years of teaching experience, or undergraduate GPA. Conclusion: The study concludes by recommending the standardization of educational resources through the development of reliable, integrated materials that comprehensively address both theoretical and applied aspects of genetic engineering, while emphasizing the adoption of active and interactive learning methods to foster accurate conceptualizations among teachers and students alike. الهدف: هدفت الدراسة الكشف عن التصورات البديلة التي يمتلكها معلمي ومعلمات العلوم الحياتية حول الهندسة الوراثية في منطقتي لواء ناعور ووادي السير في الأردن، في ضوء متغيرات الجنس، الخبرة التدريسية، والتقدير في البكالوريوس. المنهجية: اتبعت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي المسحي، تألفت عينة الدراسة من (51) معلماً ومعلمة، واتبعت الدراسة المنهج الوصفي المسحي، وكانت أداة الدراسة اختباراً مكوناً من 30 فقرة (ثنائي الطبقة) ولكل فقرة 4 بدائل موزعة على خمسة مجالات. النتائج: وأظهرت النتائج وجود تباين ملحوظ في مستوى فهم معلمي ومعلمات العينة لمفاهيم الهندسة الوراثية، ووجود تحديات جوهرية في فهم التطبيقات الهندسة الوراثية، كما أظهرت النتائج وعياً مرتفعاً لدى أغلبية المعلمين بالمخاطر والتحذيرات المرتبطة بالهندسة الوراثية، مما يعكس درجة الغموض وعدم اليقين المصاحب لهذه الموضوعات وتأثر المعلمين بما يتناقله الإعلام والمجتمع من جوانب مثيرة أو تحذيرية دون تقديم تفسير علمي متوازن، في حين أظهرت مجالات الأساسيات والمفاهيم العامة والتطبيقات الحالية نسبًا أقل من التصورات البديلة، فيما احتل البعد الأخلاقي موقعًا متوسطًا من حيث انتشار التصورات البديلة لتداخل المعارف العلمية مع القيم الدينية والاجتماعية والثقافية مما يفتح المجال لتفسيرات شخصية غير قائمة دائمًا على أسس علمية دقيقة، كما أشارت النتائج إلى عدم وجود فروق دالة إحصائيًا بين متوسطات مجالات اختبار التصورات البديلة تعزى لمتغيرات الجنس أو سنوات الخبرة أو التقدير في البكالوريوس. الخلاصة: وفي ضوء النتائج وتفسيرها أوصت الدراسة بتعزيز البرامج التدريبية التخصصية التي تعالج المفاهيم الدقيقة مثل الهندسة الوراثية، وتوحيد المصادر التعليمية، والتقييم الدوري للمعلمين.
