Contemporary multicenter surgical cohorts demonstrate excellent early safety and 2-year durability for mitral valve repair in selected patients with degenerative mitral regurgitation, serving as a benchmark for transcatheter therapies.

Limitations

Outcomes were conditional on successful mitral valve repair, as patients requiring conversion to valve replacement were excluded.
The cohort does not define an all-comers surgical benchmark, but rather illustrates outcomes in a selected repair population.
Findings cannot be directly extrapolated to broader populations, such as high or prohibitive risk patients treated later in the disease course.
