The paper considers the use of modern software packages for computer simulation of diesel engine operational processes with an emphasis on forecasting fuel, economic and environmental indicators. The main approaches to developing mathematical models simulating fuel injection, spraying, mixing, combustion and gas exchange are analyzed. Particular attention is paid to multidimensional CFD modeling in ANSYS Forte using detailed kinetic models of combustion, spray models and formation of pollutants (NOx, soot, CO), as well as thermodynamic modeling in MATLAB based on Vibe function for calculating indicator diagrams and heat release characteristics. The possibility is shown to optimize virtually the combustion chamber design, injection parameters and engine operating modes at the design stage without expensive field tests. It is also shown that the combined approach (MATLAB for preliminary analysis and calibration, ANSYS Forte for detailed CFD calculations) makes it possible to effectively predict the emission of toxic components and improve the environmental performance of diesels under the conditions of stricter international standards (Euro 6/7, EPA Tier 4 Final, China VI). The role of digital modeling in reducing the time and cost of developing environmentally friendly power plants is emphasized.
