Discrete Element Methods (DEM) are a new numerical approach that can be used to model the behavior of granular media. In agriculture, DEM has been increasingly employed as a means of optimizing a variety of agricultural operations such as soil tillage, seeding, harvesting, as well as post-harvesting activities.
