Objective. To analyze the epidemiological basis of quarantine in international dog and cat importation,identify the three main regulatory models, and describe the technical causes that trigger or prolong itsapplication. Results. Three models are identified: A) routine mandatory quarantine (Australia, NewZealand); B) conditional quarantine for non-compliance (EU, UK); C) no general quarantine but withretention authority (USA-CDC). Most frequent triggers include non-matching microchip, vaccine-serologychronological mismatch, and antiparasitic treatments outside the time window. Conclusion. Quarantine ispreventable in most cases through correct documentary file management and pre-embarkationchronological verification.
