A Conceptual Study on Artificial Intelligence & Its Application in Libraries Mahadev Nagnath Chavan Librarian, Baburao Patil College of Arts & Science, Angar, Tal-Mohol Dist-Solapur Abstract Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the landscape of library and information services by enhancing efficiency, accessibility, and user experience. AI refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines, enabling them to perform tasks such as learning, reasoning, and decision-making. In libraries, AI applications include automated cataloguing, intelligent information retrieval, chatbots for reference services, and recommendation systems that personalize user interactions. Machine learning algorithms assist in metadata generation, document classification, and predictive analytics for collection development. Natural language processing (NLP) enables semantic search and improves user query resolution. Additionally, AI-driven tools support digital preservation, plagiarism detection, and resource management. The integration of AI in libraries contributes to smarter knowledge organization and improved service delivery. However, challenges such as ethical concerns, data privacy, and skill gaps among library professionals must be addressed. Overall, AI presents significant opportunities for modernizing libraries in the digital age.
