With the acceleration of urbanization and the continuous optimization of energy structure, China’s gas meter industry has ushered in a new period of rapid development. It is of great significance for the long-term development of China’s gas meter industry to deeply analyze the development status of gas meter industry standards and explore its key role in promoting technological progress, ensuring gas safety and promoting international trade. Firstly, this paper systematically reviews the development of gas meter industry in China. From early mechanical gas meters to modern intelligent gas meters, technological innovation has always been the core driving force for the rapid development of the industry. At the same time, it combs the status quo of many standards and shows the important supporting role of the standard system in regulating the development of the industry. Subsequently, the national standards GB/T 6968-2019 “Diaphragm gas meters” and GB/T 39841-2021 “Ultrasonic gas meters” are compared with the European standards EN 1359:2017 “Diaphragm gas meters” and EN 14236:2018 “Ultrasonic domestic gas meters”. Based on the above contents, this paper puts forward some suggestions on the development of China’s gas meter industry standards, with a view to continuously optimizing its own standard system and contributing more innovative China wisdom and solutions to the global gas meter market.
