Objective: The purpose was to assess dynamic balance, fall risk, and footprint symmetry in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis and compare them to their peers without spinal asymmetry. Design: A cross-sectional study involved a cohort of one hundred and fifty adolescents, divided into two groups: adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis (AIS group) and adolescents without spinal asymmetry (control group), 75 for each. Participants in both groups underwent evaluation for dynamic balance, fall risk, and symmetry of footprint while ambulating, utilizing identical methodologies. Results: A comparison of the groups showed a significant increase in OSI (ES=2.85), APSI (ES=2.17), MLSI (ES=6.18), fall risk (ES=5.02), and MPPD (ES=2.58) in the AIS group compared with the control group ( P <0.001). Conclusions: Idiopathic scoliosis significantly affects dynamic balance, making adolescents more prone to falls and leading to noticeable asymmetry in their footprints when they walk. Addressing these concerns may be warranted to enhance their overall safety and mobility.
