Abstract The Siddheshwar Temple of Solapur is one of the most significant religious and cultural landmarks in Maharashtra, deeply associated with the spiritual legacy of Siddheshwar Maharaj. Over centuries, the temple and the annual Siddheshwar Gaddha Yatra have evolved from a localized religious observance into a large-scale socio-cultural event attracting devotees from diverse regions and social backgrounds. This research paper examines the historical evolution of the Siddheshwar Temple and the Gaddha Yatra, tracing their origins, ritual practices, socio-cultural importance, and economic dimensions. Based entirely on secondary data such as historical records, district gazetteers, scholarly literature, temple publications, and documented oral traditions, the study highlights how the Yatra functions as a medium for preserving indigenous religious knowledge, fostering social harmony, and shaping the collective cultural identity of Solapur. The paper also analyzes the transformation of the Yatra under the influence of urbanization, administrative regulations, and modernization while retaining its core spiritual and integrative essence. By adopting a historical and analytical perspective, the study contributes to the understanding of temple-centered festivals as dynamic institutions within Indian Knowledge Systems and regional social history.
