Evaluation of the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Prolonged Grief Disorder Scale-Revised (PG-13-R)

This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Prolonged Grief Disorder Scale-Revised (PG-13-R) and examined risk factors associated with Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD). The sample included 591 adults who had lost a first-degree relative 1-5 years ago. Participants completed the PG-13-R, the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5). Exploratory Factor Analysis supported the unidimensional structure of PGD symptoms. While the yearning symptom did not emerge as central, the meaningless symptom was a prominent component of the construct. Logistic regression analysis indicated that being female, younger age of the bereaved, low income, low education, unexpected death, and child loss were significant risk factors for PGD. The findings indicated that the Turkish version of the PG-13-R possesses psychometric properties similar to the original version and can serve as a reliable and useful tool for both research and clinical practice.
