This research aims to explore the suitability of the bioregion and territorial heritage para digms when designing and implementing metropolitan agendas. To this end, the paper begins by analysing how recent public policies on spatial planning have addressed the issue of urban and territorial sustainability, focusing on the role played by cultural and natural heritage. It then ex plores the concept of the urban bioregion, seeking to reveal its usefulness for studying the sustain ability of metropolitan areas where territorial heritage is a key factor. Finally, the topic is illustrated through the case study of the Seville Metropolitan Agenda, which is currently in its early stages of development.
