Simplifying previous implementations of dynamics-based logic gates, we experimentally perform Boolean logic by exploiting the nonlinear dynamics of single iterations of a single unijunction transistor — containing just a single p–n junction — controlled by a single operating parameter. Changing the unijunction’s gate voltage robustly changes its logic operation, even in the presence of operational noise and manufacturing imperfections. Such universal logic gates minimize hardware even as they exploit intrinsic device nonlinearities to facilitate next-generation computation.
