Key Points

  • To systematically review modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer's disease in Latin American populations.
  • Analyzed 63 studies from 2000 to 2024
  • Focused on 12 risk factors identified by the Lancet Commission
  • Calculated population-attributable fraction estimates
  • Estimated population-attributable fraction of 35-48% for modifiable risk factors
  • Low educational attainment identified as a high-priority target (OR 1.8-3.2)
  • Hypertension also prioritized (OR 1.6-2.4)

Abstract

Systematic review of modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer's disease in Latin American populations (2000-2024). Analyzes 63 studies examining 12 Lancet Commission risk factors. Combined population-attributable fraction estimates: 35-48%. Low educational attainment (OR 1.8-3.2) and hypertension (OR 1.6-2.4) are the highest-priority targets.
