Key Points

  • The aim is to explore the characteristics and management strategies for older Japanese individuals with obesity disease.
  • Conducted an observational analysis of treatment approaches for obesity disease among older adults.
  • Examined the roles of internal medicine physicians versus specialists in managing obesity cases.
  • Assessed physical impairments associated with obesity in the older population.
  • Older Japanese individuals with obesity disease frequently experience physical impairments.
  • Lifestyle interventions are predominantly used by internal medicine physicians for treatment.
  • There is a need for greater recognition and specialized care addressing obesity-related health disorders.

Abstract

Older Japanese PwOD faced physical impairments and were generally treated with lifestyle interventions by internal medicine physicians rather than specialists such as endocrinologists/diabetologists. HCPs should recognize obesity disease and obesity-related health disorders and provide appropriate medical care tailored to the specific needs of older PwOD.
