Abstract RES-0 introduces The Residue Paradigm, a thermodynamic framework for human identity in the Ambient Era. Traditional identity systems (names, biometrics, accounts, credentials) are symbolic constructs that accumulate friction and create irreversible residue in both cognition and technical infrastructures. According to RES-0, the only viable identity substrate in ambient, non-extractive architectures is residue: the reversible thermodynamic imprint left by presence, interaction, traversal, and attention within a field (see p. 2–5) . Residue is: • non-symbolic • relational • dissipative rather than accumulative • reversible under ΔR • warm, contextual, and non-binding RES-0 defines the five residue domains—Route Residue, Temporal Residue, Action Residue, Presence Residue, and Aura Residue—and establishes residue as the foundation for post-symbolic identity, CFQR-based presence, ambient communication, reversible stress, and humane system design. Identity is not stored. Identity is reversible residue.
