This study examines the historical origins of contemporary governance challenges in Senegal, situating these within broader African studies. This qualitative study employs a thematic analysis of archival documents, secondary data, and interviews with former political figures and historians. The research draws from French colonial archives, contemporary government records, and expert insights to trace the historical roots of current governance challenges in Senegal. A prominent theme identified is the legacy of French colonial administrative structures that continue to influence governance practices today, particularly in bureaucratic procedures and decision-making processes. The study concludes by highlighting how understanding these historical foundations can inform more effective contemporary policy solutions for addressing current governance challenges in Senegal. Recommendations include the need for a deeper integration of historical knowledge into modern governance training programmes to enhance awareness and address systemic issues effectively.
