Key Points

  • Improved hydrogen production efficiency is achieved through enhanced dynamics of the buck converter, supporting sustainable energy sources.
  • The optimization of the current reference ramp is crucial, demonstrating benefits in converter reliability and overall performance.
  • Application of peak current mode in buck converters is central to optimizing control for electrolyzers in hydrogen production processes.
  • These advancements may significantly contribute to cleaner energy solutions for hydrogen-powered vehicles worldwide.

Abstract

Nowadays, hydrogen gas represents one of the perspective sources of renewable green energy. In transportation sector, hydrogen is used as an energy source for electric vehicle fuel cells or as an alternative to gasoline for combustion engines. A key part of hydrogen production by electrolysis is the design of power converters to supply electrolyzers. This paper aims to optimize the current reference ramp compensation slope with a peak current mode buck converter used in more complex converters for hydrogen production. The goal is to improve the converter´s dynamics, efficiency, and reliability to improve electrolysis hydrogen production. This optimization also contributes to cleaner and more sustainable solutions for hydrogen-powered vehicles.
