Extending thirty years of NPD best practice studies, this paper presents the results of the most recent 2020 global best practice survey on product development management practices conducted by the PDMA with responses from 589 companies in 31 countries. Besides continuing research on key dimensions such as antecedents to product-market successes, NPD process management, and NPD portfolio decisionmaking, the 2020 survey placed particular focus on NPD responses to the Covid19 pandemic and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in product development design and management.
