SCM | The Arrow of Time from Structural Selection

FBFlip Boer

Key Points

  • Probability emerges as a quadratic survival weight, clarifying foundational aspects of physical theory.
  • Irretrievable ordering of outcomes defines the arrow of time, emphasizing its significance in understanding temporal structure.
  • The analysis does not rely on assumptions of spacetime or observers, offering a fresh perspective on these concepts.
  • Understanding these principles can lead to deeper insights into the nature of reality and the structure of physical laws.

Abstract

This paper derives both the Born rule and the arrow of time from a single structural requirement: coherent return. By analyzing how admissible outcomes survive or fail under return, probability emerges as a quadratic survival weight, while time appears as the irreversible ordering of accepted outcomes. The results are obtained without assuming spacetime, dynamics, observers, or thermodynamics, and clarify why probabilistic and temporal structure is unavoidable in physical theory.
