Species-Specific Evidence of Structural Change in Portuguese Fisheries: A 30-Year Analysis of CFP Reform Influence

View Full Paper
PMPedro Valadas Monteiro

Key Points

  • This analysis assesses structural changes in Portuguese fisheries over 30 years, linked to CFP reforms.
  • Conducted a national quantitative assessment of fisheries data stratified by species
  • Analyzed landing data from 47 fish species over the years 1995 to 2024
  • Applied Spearman's rank correlation to identify long-term trends between year and landing volume
  • 26 fish species (55.3%) exhibited significant negative trends in landing volumes
  • Detected a strong correlation (ρ up to -0.953) indicating declining fish populations
