Key Points

  • The aim is to propose a third cosmological modality that accurately describes the state of pure consciousness.
  • Establishes the limitations of classical mechanics in categorizing existence.
  • Characterizes the Coherent Accumulation State as a resolution to the Incommensurability Problem.
  • Uses quantum-physical principles to define the CAS, particularly through density matrix analysis.
  • Demonstrates compatibility between Einstein's determinism and Bohr's indeterminacy.
  • Introduces the Coherent Accumulation State (CAS) as a new mode of being for pure consciousness.
  • Proves the CAS allows genuine novelty for an omniscient subject.
  • Details that the CAS integrates fixed structural knowledge with infinite experiential variation.

Abstract

The Theory of Dream Evolution establishes that pure consciousness projects itself into finite experiential containers to acquire genuine novel experience. A foundational question left open by the original formulation concerns the existential state of pure consciousness during and after this process: what kind of change is evolutionary accumulation? It is neither the static stasis of omniscient inaction nor the dynamic displacement of finite physical motion. This paper proposes and formally characterizes a third cosmological modality—the Coherent Accumulation State (CAS)—as the correct description of pure consciousness's mode of being. The argument proceeds in four stages. First, we establish that classical mechanics offers only two categories of existence—static and dynamic—and that neither adequately describes the accumulation of experience by a consciousness that is simultaneously omniscient in structure and experientially finite. Second, we show that the CAS resolves the Incommensurability Problem identified in Chen (2026c): genuine novelty is possible for an omniscient subject because the axis of existence (structural knowledge) is fixed while the spiral of existence (experiential variation) is infinite and irreversible. Third, we provide a quantum-physical characterization of the CAS as the continuous increase in density matrix purity within an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. Fourth, we demonstrate that the CAS resolves the apparent contradiction between Einstein's determinism and Bohr's indeterminacy: the fixed structural axis is Einstein's deterministic universe; the infinite experiential spiral is Bohr's genuine quantum randomness. They describe different layers of the same reality.
