Summary: Japan is a disaster-prone country and in need of personnel with all-hazard type crisis response capabilities that encompass natural disasters, infectious diseases, and CBRNE. However, human resource is limited in Japan, which has a public health perspective and the ability to respond to health crisis management cases such as disasters. The purpose of this program is to train experts who can contribute to the coordination and improvement of the medical system in case of a disaster. The Japan DMAT secretariat trains and operates the national EMT, Japan DMAT, and has launched a 2- year program to train crisis management specialists as a CMTP course since 2024. This program provides opportunities to gain experience in the planning and operation of training and practical exercises, as well as administrative work and research in the case of a disaster. First-year trainees are: •Certified as DMAT members and are learning the principles of disaster and health crisis management. •Participated in a disaster exercise organized by the government and local authorities to gain experience in disaster response. •Attended training organized by the infection crisis management authorities. •Learned how to analyze and evaluate data by practicing responses to actual disasters and other health crisis management incidents. CMTP course content is expected to be brushed up according to future results. The First CMTP course will conclude in March 2026. The Secretariat will continue to develop human resources for disaster management in the CMTP course.
